Data security technology company ClevX has released a self-encrypting disk platform that can rotate almost any hard disk drive (HDD (opens in a new tab)) or a solid state drive (SSD), both internal and external, into a super secure, encrypted drive.
ClevX DataLock BT secured (opens in a new tab) it consists of a small chip, a bluetooth antenna and special software. All you need to get started is a modern smartphone and a few minutes.
The drives must use compatible controllers and firmware, but considering that the ClevX works with all major SSD controller developers, this shouldn’t be a problem.

Once installed on disk, the chip encrypts data using the AES-256 algorithm and comes with a unique PIN that unlocks data that users can obtain via the ClevX smartphone app. Alternatively, the keyboard can also be connected to external drives.
One of the standout features of the platform is the ability to unlock the drive only in specific geographic locations. However, the flexibility of the platform may be more eye-catching.
Devices like printers, which often store a mountain of sensitive data, are also compatible with the platform. Installation, says ClevX, does not affect endpoints (opens in a new tab)‘Forms of factors.
Finally, the platform is operating system independent, so users of macOS, Windows, Linux and other platforms can use DataLock BT Secured.
Data security has grown in importance in the past few years, and as criminals steal terabytes of data, legislators and law enforcement agencies from countries around the world have stepped into consumer protection.
To comply with various data protection rules and regulations, such as the GDPR, companies must adhere to strict data protection rules, including encryption.
This can be achieved with encryption hardware such as the new ClevX solution, or software such as Folder Lock (opens in a new tab) or AxCrypt.
